When I thought of the wonderful idea of making my Top 25 Animations I thought it would be a pretty easy decision process. It started out easy with my top 5 or so movies then when started to lay out the rest on the table it got a little harder. After making my list I revised it a bit and I asked my roommate Jonathan (Who I call Jonny) if I could do my top 50 and he said “Nobody is going to read that.” I thought “I would” but he was right and I had to keep the list at 25.
As a film student I do have some connection with the animation department at my school (Huntington University) and if I had a better talent of drawing cartoons (or things out of my head) I would. But alas I am going to stick with the Film Production Major even though I have the deepest respect and loyalty for animators. This list is compiled of my favorite Animated Feature Films not the Best Animated Feature Films. If I made a best of list, it would be totally different. I will try to post Five every day.
25 The Hobbit
Some may be appalled that I include this on my list and some may love that I included it. Well its my list and I don’t care what you think! Well I do… a bit. Anyways, this is the film that introduced me to the World of Middle Earth and I think it is wonderful. Is it one of the best animated films of all time? No… But Rankin/Bass did a wonderful job compressing this fabulous tale into a feature length children’s film.
This movie really makes me like food. One thing you can always count on with Pixar is that they always have original/beautiful stories (That is if you don’t count Cars 2). Though this hasn’t been my most viewed Pixar film, I do think it is a great one. I haven’t watched it in a couple of years and I think I should revisit it again soon. Ratatouille is a rich vibrant film that really appeals to me. Plus I love films that take place in Paris!
23 Grave of the Fireflies
If you have never heard or seen this film I recommend you finish reading this blog go to your nearest video rental store and check it out! It is one of the best WWII films I have ever seen. The story is about a young man and his sister during war struck Japan. One of the most gripping and emotional films I have ever seen. One of the best Studio Ghibli films out there. And if you don’t know Studio Ghibli go use my friend Google, it’s a great tool.
22 The Incredibles
Pixar.Superheroes.Brad Bird…Must I say more
I no some may kick me for putting Ponyo ahead of My Neighbor Totoro (It was a close runner up but was not included in my list). Anyways this was my second Studio Ghibli film and I fell in love with it right away. When I first see a foreign film I try to always watch it in its original language and this is one film that the original voice actors out plays the English dubs. The Japanese voices are way cuter, especially that of Ponyo. I’m sorry Miley Cyrus’s sister just doesn’t cut it and Frank Jonas sounds really dumb throughout. A must see in my opinion. Show this to your children, it is so cute!!!!!
